Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Recreational Therapist to join our Jail Based Treatment Program that operates as a 30-bed adult specialized behavioral health unit at Washoe County Detention Facility in Reno, NV.

The Recreational Therapist will assess clients, plan, and implement diverse therapeutic groups, and evaluate recreational goals all aimed at improving overall mental health including general functioning, physical heath, motivation for treatment, and emotional well-being.  The ideal candidate has experience working in a mental health and/or correctional setting, and in working within a multidisciplinary team.

The Jail-Based Treatment Program (JBTP) provides specialized behavioral health services for patients awaiting transfer to a state hospital for further psychiatric treatment. By providing patient-centered, evidenced-based, and holistic care, the JBTP seeks to eliminate the need for these patients to transfer to the state hospital or, at a minimum, to decrease their length of stay once hospitalized. The ultimate aim is to assist defendants in moving forward with their legal case and with their lives in a healthier place.

NaphCare is partnered with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to provide this program, which is supported by the SNAMHS and funded through the NV-DHHS Division of Public and Behavioral Health.

The Recreational Therapist will work with a team of mental health clinicians, psychiatric providers, a psychiatric nurse, discharge planner, and data coordinator led and supported by a program director.

As a Recreation Therapist, have you ever wanted to work somewhere where you can see real results from what you do?  Where you are part of a true mental health professional team, well-supported by management, such that you know your patients quickly receive any medications they need, receive fast follow-up from providers and experience remarkable results?  Would you like to work in a place that is secure and where most patients are very appreciative of your care?

This is what our employees say about working in correctional healthcare for NaphCare: “Working with NaphCare has provided me with amazing opportunities for growth. Through my various roles I’ve experienced the benefit of balancing management tasks with performing direct patient care to serve our most vulnerable populations. At NaphCare, we want you to be able to use your skills.  Our site positions include roles such as performing and electronically documenting mental health evaluations, progress notes, individual and group counseling notes and suicide risk assessments, as well as escalating patient needs to providers where appropriate.

NaphCare partners with correctional facilities to provide proactive, patient-focused healthcare.  We recognize that we serve a unique and diverse patient population, and our onsite teams take pride in bringing excellence in care to a population in great need.  Be part of a world-class team of professionals who are revolutionizing correctional healthcare as you use our cutting-edge resources, including our award-winning electronic operating system
