NaphCare is hiring a Mental Health Program Director (LCSW or psychologist) to lead our Jail Based Treatment Program that operates as a 30-bed adult specialized behavioral health unit at Washoe County Detention Facility in Reno, NV.

The Mental Health Program Director (MHPD) will be responsible for the overall clinical care and operation of the JBTP. The ideal candidate has experience working with serious mental illness and/or in a correctional setting, administrative management, and in leading a multidisciplinary team.

The Jail-Based Treatment Program (JBTP) provides specialized behavioral health services for patients awaiting transfer to a state hospital for further psychiatric treatment. The unit is a therapeutic environment, providing intensive day treatment services. By providing patient-centered, evidenced-based, and holistic care, the JBTP seeks to eliminate the need for these patients to transfer to the state hospital or, at a minimum, to decrease their length of stay once hospitalized. The ultimate aim is to assist defendants in moving forward with their legal case and with their lives in a healthier place.

NaphCare is partnered with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to provide this program, which is supported by the SNAMHS and funded through the NV-DHHS Division of Public and Behavioral Health.

The MHPD will lead a team of psychiatric providers, a psychiatric nurse, mental health clinicians (e.g., LCSWs), discharge planner, recreational therapist, and data coordinator to support the JBTP.

NaphCare has a partnership with NetCE that provides CEU/CME for our staff. NetCE uses a rigorous peer review process to ensure that all activities and content are up-to-date. This service streamlines continuing education for all NaphCare Employees to meet state specific requirements for maintaining licensing. 

Responsibilties of the Mental Health Program Director:

• Develop and oversee the implementation of program policies and procedures
• Lead the multidisciplinary JBTP treatment team
• Manage administrative duties for the program and staff
• Provide back-up to JBTP clinicians for assessments, treatment, and crisis intervention as needed
• Provide/facilitate and ensure training of JBTP staff
• Provide up to one therapeutic group per week
• Provide clinical consultation to JBTP treatment staff
• Support and oversee the data management of outcomes tracking for the JBTP, including generating and presenting outcomes reports at the designated times
• Round with unit deputies to ensure coordinated care with Sheriff’s Office staff
• Demonstrates knowledge of mental health treatment provision and program implementation
• Collaborates with facility (e.g., off-program medical and mental health staff, Mental Health Director, Health Services Administrator), legal parties (e.g., Competency Court); and State Forensic Department and State Hospital staff to coordinate patient care and outcomes tracking
• Work closely with the Corporate Forensic Director to ensure appropriate program operations
• Provide and/or participate in team-building, educational and training activities related to mental health care for patients, security personnel, and healthcare staff within the JBTP

Qualification for the Mental Health Program Director Position:

• Masters prepared candidate with active, unrestricted licensure as a clinician (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LPC, etc.) or as a psychologist (e.g., PsyD, PhD) in the state of Nevada
• Knowledge of the DSM-V-TR criteria and conditions
• Knowledge of evidenced-based and/or empirically informed treatments for serious mental illness and major mental disorders (e.g., neurodevelopmental disorders)
• Knowledge of correctional and/or forensic mental healthcare is highly preferred
• At least 1-3 years of experience, including working adults living with serious mental illness and/or in a correctional or adult inpatient mental health environment is required
• At least 1 year of experience in administrative management or program development in a healthcare or behavioral healthcare setting is highly preferred
