Overview

NaphCare is hiring an experienced Substance Abuse Counselor (CACIII, LISAC) for Full-Time to join our team at the Wayne County Jail located in Detroit Michigan. 

 

As a Correctional Counselor, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide counseling and care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex mental health and medical needs.

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct evaluations and assign substance use disorder diagnoses to male and female inmates
  • Conduct weekly group and/or individual substance abuse counseling for male and female inmates with Opioid Use Disorder
  • Provide psychoeducation about substance abuse to male and female inmates with Opioid use Disorder
  • Data collection and data entry
  • Experience working in corrections is a plus, but not required

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in mental health, clinical counseling and/or credentialed as a Certified Addiction Counselor-III (CAC-III), LISAC preferred
  • Unrestricted Licensed Clinical Social Work or Licensed Professional Counselor license in state of employment
  • Valid CPR Card
  • Experience working in corrections is a plus, but not require
  • Experience with underserved and marginalized populations, including those with mental health and substance use disorders
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse individuals, including other medical professionals, correctional staff and judges
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data to create treatment plans
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

 

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
