Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Medical Director for 6 hours/week to join our team of medical professionals in the Black Hawk County Jail in Waterloo, IA.

 

As a Correctional Medical Director, you will be responsible for ensuring all clinical needs are being met within the facility, while working alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals.

Responsibilities

The Medical Director is responsible for providing direct and indirect basic medical care to meet the physiological and emotional needs of the patients and ensuring quality care is provided to protect the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Responsibilities may include and not be limited to:

  • Conducting rounds in the medical and infirmary units
  • Performing sick call visits, and managing chronic care
  • Responding to and initiating care for medical emergencies
  • Leading efforts to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of healthcare services
  • Coordinating, leading and participating in educational and training activities
  • May supervise Staff Physicians and other medical staff
  • Ensuring compliance with State and Federal mandates and regulations, including court mandates and standards
  • Collaborating on with other medical professionals to ensure staff are responsive to patients’ needs

Qualifications

Education / Licenses / Certifications

  • Medical degree (MD or DO)
  • Valid license as a physician in the state where the facility is located
  • CPR certification
  • Possess a current DEA registration
  • Currently certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties

 

Experience / Requirements / Qualifications / Skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience in general medicine, a strong knowledge of current medical principles and practices, and the ability to manage and direct medical team
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

 

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
