Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Hemodialysis Nurse to join our team of medical professionals in  in Reno, NV, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Washoe County Jail.

 

As a Correctional Hemodialysis Nurse, you will work alongside correctional staff and other medical professionals to provide quality care to the individuals in residence ensuring all nursing care is performed in compliance to standards and adherence to regulations. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

The Hemodialysis Nurse provides hemodialysis treatment to the patients within the facility. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to:

  • Conducts initial and ongoing assessments of inmates requiring hemodialysis, develops and implements individualized care plans, and monitors patient responses to treatment.
  • Administers dialysis treatments, including setting up and monitoring dialysis machines, managing access sites (e.g., fistulas, grafts, catheters), and ensuring patient safety during the procedure.
  • Administers medications, including those related to dialysis treatment, according to physician orders and facility protocols.
  • Responds to and manages emergencies related to dialysis treatment, including potential complications like hypotension, bleeding, or infection.
  • Implements and maintains strict infection control practices to prevent the spread of infections within the dialysis unit.
  • Works closely with nephrologists, other nurses, correctional officers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective care.
  • Accurately and thoroughly documents all aspects of patient care, including assessments, treatments, medication administration, and any adverse events.
  • Educates patients about their kidney disease, dialysis treatment, and self-care strategies.
  • Adheres to all security protocols and regulations of the correctional facility while providing patient care.
  • Collaborating with medical, mental health and correctional staff to enhance quality patient care while maintaining a safe and secure work environment
  • Monitoring compliance with site-specific and company policies and procedures, taking appropriate corrective action, and ensuring compliance with ACA, NCCHC standards

Qualifications

Experience / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the NV
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Hemodialysis Staff RN in a healthcare setting, with correctional healthcare experience preferred
  • Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) or other relevant certifications may be preferred
  • Possess an active CPR certification
  • Strong clinical assessment, IV insertion, medication administration, and emergency response skills
  • Understanding of renal physiology, the causes and progression of kidney disease, and the principles of hemodialysis
  • Previous experience working in a correctional facility, familiarity with security protocols and procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

 

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
