Overview

NaphCare is hiring an Infectious Disease Physician, to join our team of medical professionals in Atlanta, GA, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Fulton County Jail.

 

As a Correctional Infectious Disease Physician, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide specialized care to patients in residence with HIV/AIDS, antibiotic-resistant infections, or surgical site infections. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs. 

Responsibilities

The Infectious Disease Physician manages a wide range of infections, from common ones like the flu to complex conditions like HIV/AIDS and antibiotic-resistant infections. Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Evaluate patients' medical histories, perform physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests (including blood work, imaging, and cultures), and identify the cause of infection
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, which may include prescribing medications (like antibiotics), wound care, and other therapies
  • Advise on preventative measures like vaccinations and hygiene practices
  • Work with other medical professionals, providing expertise on infectious disease management and infection control within healthcare settings
  • Engage in research to develop new treatments, vaccines, and preventative strategies
  • Participate in public health initiatives to monitor and control the spread of infectious diseases

Qualifications

Experience / Requirements / Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree, completion of an Infectious Disease residency, and board certification
  • Must hold a current unrestricted license in the state of Georgia
  • Current DEA registration
  • Possess an active CPR certification
  • Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
  • Must possess strong written communication and verbal skills
  • Have strong computer skills
  • Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
