Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Corporate Internist to join our team of Executives, based out of our Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, AL.

 

The Corporate Internist is primarily responsible for ensuring NaphCare’s clinical goals and objectives are achieved by leading, directing, managing, and evaluating medical services to ensure contractual obligations and client expectations are met.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of NaphCare’s CEO, the Corporate Internist responsibilities may include and not be limited to:

 

  • Utilization Management Leadership
    • Provide physician oversight for NaphCare’s national Utilization Management (UM) program, ensuring medical necessity, clinical appropriateness, and timely access to care.
    • Review and render decisions on complex or high-cost cases requiring physician-level review, ensuring compliance with established criteria (e.g., InterQual, evidence-based clinical standards).
    • Partner with the UM team to develop, refine, and maintain utilization review policies, protocols, and clinical guidelines across service lines.
    • Support the education and development of UM nurses, corporate nurse reviewers, and site medical providers on UM principles, documentation standards, and clinical justification requirements.
    • Identify trends in utilization patterns and collaborate with corporate leadership to develop interventions that improve quality and reduce unnecessary costs.
    • Participate in peer review and quality improvement processes related to UM and case management.

 

  • Internal Medicine Consultation and Support
    • Provide expert internal medicine consultation to site providers and corporate clinical teams regarding complex or chronic medical cases.
    • Serve as a clinical resource for diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making for patients with multi-system diseases or comorbidities.
    • Review cases referred by site medical staff for second opinions, treatment recommendations, or clinical validation.
    • Support the development of internal medicine protocols, chronic care management standards, and evidence-based treatment algorithms tailored to correctional settings.

 

Qualifications

Experience / Requirements / Qualifications

  • Current and unrestricted license as a physician in the state of employment and in any other states as assigned by the Employer.
  • Active DEA registration and current CPR certification.
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine preferred; Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Internal Medicine required.
  • Prior experience providing healthcare in correctional or other institutional settings strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication, clinical documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to work effectively within electronic health record (EHR) and utilization management systems.
