Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our team of medical professionals in the Arizona Department of Corrections in Yuma, AZ.

  

As a Correctional Physical Therapist Assistant, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the incarcerated individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have a variety of duties to keep you engaged. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical and dental needs.

Responsibilities

As a Physical Therapist Assistant for NaphCare, you will work under the supervision of a physical therapist to help patients regain movement, manage pain, and recover from injuries. Responsibilities may include but not be limited to:

  • Providing hands-on care, such as therapeutic exercises, massage, stretching, and gait training, while documenting patient progress and adjusting treatments
  • Implement tailored treatment plans, including therapeutic exercises, functional training, and physical agents like heat/cold/electrical stimulation
  • Observe patients before, during, and after sessions, recording progress and reporting status updates to the supervising physical therapist
  • Educate patients and their families on exercises, home programs, and proper body mechanics
  • Assist patients with transferring, walking, or using equipment like walkers and crutches
  • Maintain clean, safe treatment areas and document patient records

Qualifications

Qualifications for Physical Therapist:

  • Completion of an accredited Associate of Applied Science (AAS) or similar degree program for Physical Therapist Assistants
  • State licensure or certification is required in all states to practice
  • Must possess an active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
  • Have strong analytical, problem-solving, and logical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, compassion, and attentiveness are necessary for interacting with staff, patients, and other healthcare professionals
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and guidelines
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

 

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
