NaphCare is hiring a Behavioral Health Clerk to join our team of medical professionals working at the Alabama Department of Corrections - Birmingham facility located in Birmingham, AL.

 

As a Correctional Behavioral Health Clerk, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide administrative and clerical support to the Mental Health Director and Health Services Administrator. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull.

Responsibilities

As the Behavioral Health Clerk, your key responsibilities include and may not be limited to:

  • Responsible for managing all incoming calls, direct/ transfer calls to appropriate staff, retrieve all voicemails daily and return calls, as necessary
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, to prepare various reports, memos and correspondence as needed.  Also utilize specific software (X-Jail, TechCare) as needed
  • Perform various clerical and administrative functions to include tracking supplies, utilizing purchase orders for outside vendors and distributing mail
  • Enters client data into Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, including case notes, payments, and scheduling
  • Responsible to shred all documentation containing Patient Health Information (PHI)
  • Coordinate with Records Department for archiving files and reports
  • Coordinate volunteer services

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a High School Diploma or GED certificate 
  • Basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Excellent skills in the areas of organization, attention to detail, time management and an ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Be able to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
  • Must have one (1) year of clerical experience, preferably in a correctional setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all corporate policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

 

Working Conditions:

Must have the physical and mental capacity to work in an environment that may be less than pristine, as well as manage and maintain physical and mental health when encountering stressful situations.
