NaphCare is hiring a Ombudsman to join our team of medical professionals in the Alabama Department of Corrections - St. Clair in Springville, Alabama.
As a Ombudsman , you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals who provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.
The Correctional Ombudsman plays a critical role in our continued mission to provide quality healthcare that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Duties and responsibilities may include and not be limited to:
Investigate grievances submitted by inmates through the Administrative Remedy Process (ARP), ensuring each complaint is addressed appropriately.
Maintain thorough logs of all incoming grievances and responses, ensuring compliance with protocols and timelines.
Ensure proper documentation is attached to all grievances, with responses directed to the appropriate personnel for resolution.
Handle phone and email complaints from inmate families, forwarding them to the medical management team as necessary.
Generate and submit detailed monthly reports on grievances, ensuring that all complaints are logged and resolved promptly.
Requirements / Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited nursing school with current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Strong healthcare knowledge or equivalent experience in a healthcare setting
Proven ability to conduct interviews, write reports, and resolve issues effectively
Current CPR Certification required
Previous experience in customer/client relations is highly desirable
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Critical thinking and independent problem-solving skills
Strong organizational, planning, and administrative abilities
Ability to prioritize and perform well under pressure, meeting deadlines with minimal supervision
Ability to work in a high-stress environment
Physical Capabilities:
Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
