NaphCare is hiring a full-time Recreational Therapist / Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist to join our specialized THRIVE Jail Based Competency to Stand Trial Treatment Program in San Diego, CA.

NaphCare’s Jail-Based Competency Treatment (JBCT) program is as a California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) satellite program that operates as a 30-bed adult male unit at the San Diego Central Jail.
Our patients receive psychiatric and mental health services aimed at restoring their competency to stand trial so that they may proceed with pending criminal charges in the court system and move forward in their lives in a healthier place.
The Recreational Therapist will conduct individual needs assessments, plan and implement diverse recreational and/or educational groups, and evaluate recreational goals all aimed at improving overall mental health including general functioning, physical heath, motivation for treatment, and emotional well-being. The ideal candidate has experience working in a mental health and/or correctional setting, and in working within a multidisciplinary team.
THRIVE provides specialized behavioral health services for patients found incompetent to stand trial (IST) due to serious mental illness and/or mental disability, and who have been court ordered to inpatient restoration treatment that they receive in the jail. The JBCT unit is a therapeutic environment, providing intensive day treatment services.
The Recreational Therapist will work with a team of mental health therapists, psychiatric providers, psychiatric nurses, forensic examiners, forensic educators, and program director.

· Ability to work and sit in front of a computer approximately 4 hours per day · Ability to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time to provide group treatment (30-60 minutes) · Light physical work involving lifting bending and carrying up to twenty-five (25) pounds. · Talking and listening to communicate effectively with team members. · Ability to work under pressure |
